Slagerij Mortier: twice voted Best Butcher of Belgium
Best Butcher of Belgium 2021-2025 & 2025-2027
At the end of September 2021, Slagerij Mortier was voted Best Butcher of Belgium for the first time. We received the main prize from the hands of Minister of the Self-Employed David Clarinval. A special moment for our team, as the hard work we deliver every day was beautifully crowned.
In the meantime, Slagerij Mortier has already been voted Best Butcher of Belgium twice: first for the 2021-2025 period and again for 2025-2027. That makes us immensely proud. After five generations of providing quality meat to the people of Nevele and far beyond, this is an exceptional recognition of our craft, our passion and our constant commitment to quality.
Celestin Mortier, who founded the butcher shop in 1882, would undoubtedly be incredibly proud.
But what does the title Best Butcher of Belgium actually mean?
During the Official Master Craftsmanship competition for Butchers 2021, butchers and caterers from all over Belgium submitted products in four categories: artisanal cooked ham, raw bone-in ham, salami and Parisian sausage. The products were presented anonymously and judged by a professional jury made up of, among others, representatives of the professional association and the butchery education sector.
Of the products we submitted, nine won gold and one won silver. They were very positively assessed on appearance, composition, flavour and aroma. In two categories we even reached the absolute top: our house Boerenhesp (farmer's ham) and our Parisian sausage stood head and shoulders above the competition. An exceptional achievement, especially in a competition to which more than 840 products were submitted.
Our team is grateful and proud of this prestigious title. And because we have now received this recognition once again, we feel even more motivated to keep treating our customers in the years to come with only the very best.
